Weather could cause issues for holiday travelers across North Carolina this weekend.

What You Need To Know

  • Winds will be increasing for the rest of the weekend

  • Sunday will be the wettest day across North Carolina

  • Severe storms are possible with Sunday's rain

Sunday will not be a good day for travel across the state as storms start in the mountains in the morning and spread into eastern North Carolina by afternoon and evening.

Much of North Carolina should see at least 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain through Sunday. Some spots in western North Carolina could see over 2 inches.

The warmer weather may fuel not only downpours but also the potential for strong storms.

The main threat from any strong storms will be damaging straight-line wind gusts. However, there's also a low risk for an isolated tornado.

Make sure you have a way to receive weather alerts in case they are issued Sunday, and stay tuned to Weather on the 1s on Spectrum News 1 for updates on the forecast.
