With rain and thunderstorms impacting many parts of New York state through Monday, Gov. Kathy Hochul is asking residents to monitor their local forecasts for the latest information.
"Throughout the weekend, parts of the state will continue to be at risk for flooding from storms bringing heavy rain, especially in those areas already hard-hit by rains and flooding over the past couple of days," Hochul said in a statement. "State agencies will stay ready to respond to local requests for assistance throughout the weekend. I urge everyone to keep a close eye on the weather and be sure to plan activities accordingly."
The governor says parts of the Capital, Mid-Hudson, Mohawk Valley, North Country and Southern Tier regions, as well as New York City, are expected to receive heavy rain that could result in flash flooding. Officials say flood watches are currently in effect for parts of the Capital Region, Mid-Hudson, New York City and North Country regions.
"Storms and heavy rain across the state may cause flooding in areas that have already seen rain this week,” New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Commissioner Jackie Bray said in a statement. “My team is ready to provide assistance to our partners at the local level as needed. Keep a close eye on the forecast this weekend and stay alert."
The latest watches, warnings and advisories can be found via the National Weather Service. New Yorkers can also sign up to receive free emergency alerts by subscribing to NY Alert at alert.ny.gov.
The governor’s office says the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services' Emergency Operations Center, the Department of Transportation, and the Thruway Authority are monitoring conditions and are prepared to respond.
