Citi Bike has raised its prices again this year, with officials blaming an increase in expenses.

The company said “higher than anticipated battery swapping, insurance and vehicle expenses” caused it to bump up rates effective Wednesday. Citi Bike originally increased its prices in late January.

E-bike per-minute fees and per-minute overage rates for e-bike and classic bike rides for members are increasing from 20 cents to 24 cents, according to Citi Bike.

Lyft Pink All Access members will see e-bike fees and overage rates for e-bike and classic bike rides increase to 24 cents per minute.

Nonmember passes are increasing from 30 cents to 36 cents per minute, according to Citi Bike. For e-bike rides 45 minutes or less entering or exiting Manhattan from another borough, the cap price will go up 80 cents to $4.80.

The company said members can continue using the free 45-minute classic bike rides and 60-minute free e-bike for every signup or renewal.

All other prices, including annual membership prices, will remain the same, according to the company.

Citi Bike also said it is working with the city Department of Transportation and Con Edison to pilot charging stations as a way to address high costs.

“A network of charging stations will reduce the need for van-based battery swapping. We'll continue to invest in more manual battery swapping to ensure you can find an e-bike that's charged and available for use,” the company wrote in a statement.
