Some subway riders at the Queensboro Plaza station say service changes in the new year will lead to a headache.

On Thursday, the MTA announced there will be a full shutdown of the Queensboro Plaza station every weekend in January.

What You Need To Know

  • Starting on Jan. 6, the MTA will be repairing tracks and upgrading the station to make it more accessible

  • Parts of the Q, N and F lines will be suspended. There will also be no F train or 7 train service between Queens and Manhattan

  • The 7 line will run between Main Street and 74th Street-Broadway
  • Service changes will begin on Saturdays at 12:01 a.m. and will end before the morning rush at 5 a.m.

Astoria commuter Matthew Alvo said it's an inconvenient time of year for closures.

“It’s a busy time of year after the new year for social engagements and whatever's going on. I’m always on the run,” Alvo said.

“There’s a shuttle bus, but it takes two or three times as long, so it’s not even worth it,” Alvo said.

The MTA said they will be rehabilitating all stairs, installing a new CCTV security system and new platform-elevator equipment. While improvements may be necessary, Alvo said he’s dreading the alternatives.

“I just don’t understand how they can cut off trains [every weekend] for an entire month. I guess we’ll figure it out between Ubers and shuttles,” Alvo said.
