The evolving world of artificial intelligence is becoming a part of every aspect of our lives, from commerce, to home and transit, and the arts.

There are a handful of trained AI programs that sample styles from works of art found online, and then generate art based upon a user’s text prompt.

These images have found their way into advertising, illustrations, and even art auctions.

New York’s renowned Christie’s auction house is currently holding its first ever “Augmented Intelligence” auction, featuring the works of dozens of digital artists who used AI to construct their pieces.

However, not everyone is happy about this decision.

Thousands of artists have signed a online petition to cancel the auction, citing concerns over copyright, authorship, and the future of the art industry.

Nicole Sales Giles, digital art director for Christie’s, and Sasha Stiles, a digital artist who’s work is featured in the auction, joined “The Rush Hour” on Friday to discuss the event and the future of AI in the art world.
