A new film is hoping to change the narrative about incarceration, and highlight the power of the arts.
“Sing Sing” starring Coleman Domingo takes a closer look at a program that brings theater, music, dance, and arts classes to inmates at 10 medium and maximum security prisons across the state.
Compared to the average recidivism rate of more than 60%, the group says less than 3% of participants in the program return to prison.
Leslie Lichter, interim executive director of Rehabilitation through the Arts, joined “The Rush Hour” on Wednesday to discuss the program, and how the film is helping some New Yorkers get a second chance.
