For some students on Staten Island last week was all about learning the importance of being kind. The bar has been set high for 4th and 5th grade students at P.S. 29 in Castleton Corners. Principal, Linda Manfredi, wanted to instill moral values in students, molding them to become exceptional members of society.

The goal is highlighted with what's called "Kindness Week." A presentation called “The Kindness Assembly” served as the grand finale.

Manfredi invited Evan Odeseye to speak to the students. He's a 2003 graduate who went on to accomplish many things at a young age. He's an actor, created a clothing line, and double majored in college.

"It just feels good to be able to come back to the school and speak to the kids and inspire them," said Odeseye.

He said he accomplished everything with kindness leading the way, a message he wants to pass along to the students.

"I believe in doing good, when you do good, good comes back to you," said Odeseye.

"School is more than just books,” said the P.S. 29 Guidance Counselor, Nicole Gavaris says it's about learning good character.

“"We want them to learn to be honest and selfless individuals," she said.

Gavaris and other faculty members said they're already noticing the impact "Kindness Week" is having on the students."

"We have students already who would be so quiet and introverted now they are saying good morning when they walk in and they are smiling to each other," said Gavaris.

That isn’t all. Daniella Biscuiti, a fourth grade student, cut 12 inches off her hair and donated it to “Locks For Love,” an organization that provides wigs to children suffering  from long-term medical hair loss from any illness.

Biscuiti didn't stop there.

"Donated $480 to St. Judes and so far a little over $600 to march of dimes," she said.

5th grade student, Jaria Rantanen is another student doing remarkable things.

"I'm in chorus so we raised money with a bake sale to help wounded warriors," she said.

She said there's no stopping now.

"I want to keep helping people throughout my life," said Rantanen
