HONOLULU — From Cal State Bakersfield’s perspective, Brock Perreira picked a great moment to launch his first home run of the season.

For the Hawaii baseball team, it couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Perreira, a Kaiser High alum from Honolulu, launched a one-out solo blast inside the right field pole on a 1-1 count in the top of the 10th to give the Roadrunners the go-ahead run in their 7-6th win over the Rainbow Warriors to begin a three-game Big West series on Friday.

UH (26-14, 10-12 BWC) dropped its sixth straight conference game and has dropped into a tie for sixth place with eight games left to determine seeding for the inaugural Big West tournament. Only the top five teams qualify.

The ‘Bows had not dropped a game in 2025 in which they led after six innings, and Isaiah Magadaleno got CSUB (17-27, 8-11) down to its last strike in the bottom of the ninth with UH leading 6-5.

Nick Mascaro, who had led off the inning with a single, stole second and reached third on a wild pitch, scored on a poke into right-center by Michael Pollard, the No. 9 hitter who was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

UH went down in order in the bottom of the ninth and 10th.

First baseman Ben Zeigler-Namoa went 4-for-5 with two doubles for UH. Itsuki Takemoto got a no-decision after going 5 1/3 innings in his start with two runs allowed. Magdaleno (4-1) took his first loss in going three frames with eight hits and four runs absorbed.

The teams continue the series at 4:05 p.m. Saturday.
