A new practice facility is opening at Innovative Field just as the Rochester Red Wings embark on a new season.

The Red Wings' new performance center features indoor batting cages, a weight training room and a suite for player video analysis.

Manager Matthew LeCroy says the new state-of-the-art facilities can make a difference in developing new talent.

"This for me is the jump-start in that development," LeCroy said. "The kids that walked through the door a couple of days ago. The excitement on their face, to know that when they come to work every day, we have the facility to facilitate everyone's individual programs to the best of their ability."

The Red Wings host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in their home opener Tuesday at 4:05 p.m.

Ryan Corbett of Dansville, who was released earlier this year after being detained by the Taliban for 894 days, will throw out the first pitch.
