It's baseball season, but not just for Major League Baseball. The Harlem Hellfighters wrapped up their regular season against the East Side Rockets Sunday in Manhattan.
It's an exciting time for young baseball players who benefit from the sport in more ways than one.
"I enjoy baseball because I make new friends and I love the sensation when you hit the ball," Royce Williams, a pitcher for the Harlem Hellfighters, said.
But when these little leaguers aren't playing at Peter's Field, they're watching their favorite MLB teams from the stands.
"My favorite team is the Yankees," Adden Diaz, a centerfielder for the Harlem Hellfighters, said. "I like them because we have Garrett Cole, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton. We have a full, good lineup."
Young Yankees fans have big hopes for the Bronx Bombers, who haven't won a World Series since 2009.
"My hope is that they make it to the World Series," Diaz said.
Regardless of the Yankees' season, the Hellfighters hope they can be champions themselves this year.
"Were just trying to win every single game that we play and then make it to the playoffs and then try to win it all," Michael Espinal, coach of the Harlem Hellfighters, said.
Despite going 1-1 Sunday, they're well on their way to winning big. They will face off in the Greater Hudson Valley Baseball League playoffs next week.
