Diaz plays multiple positions on the field and helps her coach with warm-ups. She has a positive attitude that is inspiring, and she provides strong guidance to her teammates.

“Before and after the game we make a circle and we just talk about the game and we try to inspire the girls to do better,” Diaz said.

“She’s just a big time competitor,” Jeff Tyler, soccer coach, said. “She never likes to lose. Every game she took, like it was the championship game.”

Valentina’s twin sister, Valeria, co-captains the team with her.

“I’m very proud of her. I think she did a really good job in her years playing soccer,” Valeria Diaz said. “I think she was the best this year. She was even better than me, and I’m kind of jealous of that.”

“I scored about 18 goals with 10 assists, which was my best season of all,” Valentina Diaz said.

Off the field, Valentina is equally as successful. She is a member of the National Honor Society, participates in community initiatives, and she also plays the drums.

“You can’t procrastinate. For example doing homework, projects on time. It is better to be busy, and not have a lot of free time and not do anything,” Diaz said. “It is better to learn every single day and learn something new.”

Next year Valentina is off to The City College of New York to study business and medicine.
