Miles McGoy has played football ever since he could walk and basketball for even longer.
It was McGoy’s dad who inspired him to get involved.
He signed this Curtis High School senior up for flag football at six years old and also encouraged his son to participate in community basketball tournaments that he organized.
What You Need To Know
- Miles McGoy grew up playing both basketball and football. Though football became his favorite sport, this didn't stop the high school senior from joining the track team. He's a varsity athlete in all three sports
- McGoy will be playing football in college at Stony Brook University in the fall
- Miles' coaches are continually impressed by his ability to lead by example. Often encouraging others in their pursuits to improve
“He always said, like growing up, that it was my choice and that I could pursue what I wanted to pursue,” McGoy remembers. “So he was just happy that I found love in something I was really good at.”
In the end, football took the top spot in McGoy’s heart, but basketball remained part of his life.
He joined both teams in high school, making double varsity his sophomore year.
His determination impressed his science teacher, Corinne Birchard who commented, “He just has that mindset of being a legend and a leader.”
Even in the off season, this warrior maintains focus.
The wide receiver trains in his spare time and asks coaches for help at every chance he gets.

“It’s just a lot of excitement because I know this is what I worked all off season for. I’m just excited to show what I’m capable of when I step onto that field,” said McGoy.
This tri-varsity athlete loves the camaraderie of each sport he plays. He joined the track team last year and qualified for the city championships in the quarter mile.
“I know that when I go out, there my teammates have my back,” McGoy commented. “And I have their backs.”
“The thing that really makes him a strong leader is that he sets an example,” commented Peter Gambardella, Curtis High School’s varsity football coach. “He’s not the most vocal guy on the field, but he will be one of the first to arrive. He will outwork people on a daily basis and he will continue to show them what the standard is instead of just telling them what the standard is.”
McGoy keeps busy outside of sports and the classroom.
He joined Link Crew and My Brother’s Keeper; two after school programs aimed at mentoring younger students as they transition into high school.
He also helps out at the local Trinity Lutheran Church food pantry.
“It works both ways,” added McGoy. “Like they help me and I help them.”
Miles McGoy heads to SUNY Stony Brook in the fall, where he plans to study health science.
He’s excited to step on the gridiron with the Seawolves, leading in his commitment and drive.
