The Rochester Police Department and New York State Police's Aviation Unit are partnering once again to target illegal dirt bikes and ATVs in the city of Rochester.

According to the RPD, the two agencies ran details with the Aviation Unit this week.

Officials say they recovered 14 off-road vehicles, wrote 49 traffic tickets and made one felony DWI arrest.

Police say these details will continue as the weather warms up.

Off-road vehicles being driven on public roads has continued to be a nuisance and public safety issue in Monroe County with sometimes dozens of riders traveling in groups of unregistered dirt bikes and ATVs.

In 2021, the Monroe County Legislature voted to enact a local law that increases fines to $500 for a first offense, and $2,000 for a second offense. The vehicle is also impounded and proof of registration and ownership is required to retrieve it.
