Police are searching for six suspects they say broke into an unoccupied subway train and drove it over the weekend.
Sources at the MTA say the train was on its way to Jamaica Yard from Brooklyn. They say the suspects gained entry on the 4th Avenue line on layup tracks Saturday night.
Police say they responded to the Forest Hills-71st Avenue subway station in Queens. The NYPD had initially reported the incident as happening there.
New surveillance video released by the NYPD Wednesday morning shows the group entering the train and strolling up and down a train car.
Police said the suspects then proceeded to operate the vehicle and damage glass panels on the train’s camera by putting markings on them.
It wasn’t immediately clear how long the ride they took was. The NYPD said the suspects eventually exited the train and fled on foot.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, police said.
The Daily News first reported on the incident after obtaining video police believe the suspects originally posted to Instagram showing their joyride.
The NYPD has asked anyone with information about the incident to call its Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
