One of the two high-ranking former fire department officials arrested on bribery charges last month is expected to plead guilty.
Brian Cordasco was indicted last month for allegedly fast-tracking fire safety inspections in exchange for tens of thousands of dollars.
Prosecutors say between 2021 and 2023, Cordasco and Anthony Saccavino conspired with a retired firefighter who worked as an unlicensed expediter.
The 43-page indictment detailed how the two chiefs used a so-called "City Hall list" to prioritize certain projects.
The list came under scrutiny last year after it was reported that then-candidate and current Mayor Eric Adams asked the FDNY to re-inspect a new Turkish consulate building in 2021.
Adams noted last month that the case was uncovered and referred to authorities by his own administration.
"When the fire commissioner Laura Kavanagh became aware of it, she self-reported it," he said. "That's what administrations are supposed to do."
Authorities said the alleged kickback scheme the two ex-FDNY chiefs are accused of did not compromise fire safety on any of the roughly 30 building projects involved, and that all of them have since been reinspected.
Current FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker said the department is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Editor's note: A previous version of this story should have said that Cordasco was expected to enter a plea.
