Some people come to Brooklyn Bridge Park to take photos with the Manhattan skyline in the background, while others come to shop at the high-end stores.
Many said the news human remains were found on the shoreline, mere feet away, on two separate occasions, was concerning.
“Hearing that this happened is kind of scary. You don’t expect it,” park visitor Maria Heraj said.
“Hopefully it’s nothing concerning in terms of other humans hurting other humans,” park visitor Jola Mehmeti said.
As the investigation continues, there are a lot of questions from visitors: like how the bones got there and to whom they belong to.
“That’s where I am. I just have tons of questions. It’s concerning. It’s sad,” Brooklyn resident Angela Abiodun said.
Officers first responded to the area on Monday. Police sources said that’s when a human skull was found.
The NYPD and the medical examiner returned early Wednesday. Police sources said a femur was recovered.
Nunyala Sogbo and Nicole Alexander come to the shoreline often to write poems for visitors for a fee, not expecting to learn of the news.
“My brain goes to the worst-case scenario,” Sogbo said.
“There’s a lot of strange activities happening in these waters, so I’m not that surprised. It’s kind of like a when are they going to find bones rather than if,” Alexander said.
It’s also unclear if the bones are from the same person. A forensic analysis from the Medical Examiner’s Office is pending.
