One person has died after multiple shootings that were connected occurred in Brooklyn and Queens Saturday morning, the NYPD said.
In a press conference Saturday evening, acting NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban said a person is in custody in connection with the incidents.
Caban said the shootings were all connected and that the 25-year-old man involved used an illegal scooter, which did not have a license plate, to move from one location to another.

NYPD Assistant Chief Joseph Kenny said the first shooting happened at around 11:10 a.m. at the northwest corner of Arlington Avenue and Ashford Street in the 75th Precinct in Brooklyn. According to Kenny, a 21-year-old man was shot in the left shoulder. He was transported to Brookdale Hospital and is in stable condition.
Seventeen minutes later, police responding to calls of a man shot in front of 108-19 Jamaica Avenue in Queens found an 86-year-old man shot once in the back, according to the NYPD. Kenny says he was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers were alerted of a third incident nearby, where witnesses described a man on a scooter who was randomly firing at a group of people on 108th Street and Jamaica Avenue in Queens, according to Kenny. Police said no one was injured in that incident.
At approximately 11:35 a.m., a 44-year-old man was shot in the cheek on the corner of Hillside Avenue and 126th Street in Queens, Kenny said. The man was transported to Jamaica Hospital and is in critical condition.
According to Kenny, two minutes later, a 63-year-old man was shot in his right shoulder on 134th Street and Jamaica Avenue in Queens. He was transported to Jamaica Avenue and is in stable condition.
According to the NYPD, shortly after 1 p.m., police officers from the 103rd Precinct and 113th Precinct found the alleged shooter on his scooter near 94th Street and Sutphin Boulevard and took him into custody.
A 9-millimeter pistol with an extended magazine was discovered in the scooter, Kenny added.
“Given the violence this individual was willing to carry out, I want to extend my thanks and gratitude to all the men and women in the NYPD who came together to apprehend him,” Caban said.
Officials say there are ongoing investigations to these incidents.
In a statement released Sunday, City Hall spokesperson Fabien Levy said Mayor Eric Adams was “fully monitoring every aspect of yesterday’s shootings” in coordination with Caban and other NYPD members.
“We are praying for the recovery of those who were injured, as well as the individual who was murdered in cold blood yesterday, but this is another example of how illegal guns have no place in our city and how we must continue to crack down on illegal scooters,” Levy said.
"While shootings in our city are down by double digits this year, even a single random shooting can have a chilling effect on New Yorkers, and that is why the NYPD will continue to work around the clock to remove illegal guns from our streets to keep New Yorkers safe,” he added.
