An arrest has been made in connection with the shooting deaths of two NYU students outside a bar in Puerto Rico Saturday night, authorities said.

Marangelys Mclat Claudio was charged by the San Juan District Attorney’s office after being interviewed by authorities this week.

The shooting happened around 3:50 a.m. Saturday at a business called Emoji located on Loíza Street, according to police.

Authorities said Saturday that a woman opened fire outside the bar around that time after getting into a dispute with a security guard.

Both victims, 29-year-old Franco Medina and 28-year-old Sergio Palomino Ruiz, were described as innocent bystanders to this incident. The two were reportedly in Puerto Rico to celebrate a friend’s birthday.

The news of the students' deaths has now left the NYU community “brokenhearted and shocked,” a spokesperson for the university said in a statement Monday.

Both students were from Peru and were both pursuing MBAs at the Stern School of Business at NYU.

The statement said that the university had reached out to the families of the students to provide assistance.

“NYU grieves today with the family, loved ones, and friends of these students, whose lives ended tragically, suddenly, and far too early,” the statement read.
