A man who allegedly stabbed a Queens mother to death before dragging her body to a nearby park inside a duffel bag has been arrested, NYPD officials said Thursday.

David Bonola, 44, of South Richmond Hill, was taken into custody Wednesday night in connection with 51-year-old Orsolya Gaal’s death, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said at a news conference.

Bonola has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree criminal tampering and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, prosecutors said.

A passerby found a duffel bag containing Gaal’s body at the intersection of Metropolitan Avenue and the Jackie Robinson Parkway in Forest Park on Saturday morning, Essig said at the briefing.

NYPD detectives canvassing the area for surveillance footage Wednesday night spotted Bonola — who was wanted for questioning in connection with Gaal’s death — and escorted him to the 112th Precinct, where he made “incriminating statements,” he said.

Bonola, who worked as a handyman for Gaal, had been having an “intimate affair” with her for “approximately two years,” Essig said. Their relationship, however, was “off and on,” according to Deputy Chief Julie Morrill, the commanding officer of Detective Bureau Queens North.

The suspect arrived at Gaal’s home between 12:30 a.m. and 12:40 a.m. on Saturday, about 10 minutes after Gaal, who had gone to a show at Lincoln Center that night, returned home, Essig said.

“He is either let in voluntarily, or he uses a key he has knowledge about hidden in the barbecue,” he said.

Not long after, the two got into a “heated argument” in the basement of the home, during which Bonola stabbed Gaal “ruthlessly and brutally, in excess of 55 times,” he said.

After Bonola stabbed Gaal, he put her body in a hockey bag that belonged to one of her two sons, Essig said. Surveillance footage showed him rolling the bag out of the home and into the park, “leaving a bloody trail through the streets of Forest Hills,” he said.

The suspect checked himself into a nearby hospital later that day, where he was treated for wounds to both of his hands, he added. Investigators also believe Bonola used Gaal’s phone to send a threatening text message to her husband after her death, Morrill said.

Gaal’s younger son was home the night of the attack, but her husband and older son were out of town, police previously said.

“I just want to assure the public, and especially the residents of Forest Hills, that there are no outstanding suspects at this time,” Essig said.

The NYPD does not believe Bonola has any previous arrests on his record, he added. NY1 has reached out to his attorney for comment.
