Officials are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Port Jervis.

According to officials, it happened around 9 p.m. Thursday. They say police received a call about an emotionally disturbed person with a knife inside a home on Railroad Road.

Officers say when they got there, 47-year-old Charles Parker refused to put the knife down and went towards them. A Taser was allegedly used on Parker, but officials say it did not stop him, so he was shot.

The police chief is standing by the officers, saying they attempted to de-escalate the situation and had to make a split-second decision to defend themselves.

The officers have been put on paid administrative leave.
