The Republican presidential nominee is calling for CBS and other TV stations to lose their broadcast licenses, a threat the chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission condemned Thursday.

A preview video clip posted Sunday on social media shows Harris giving a different answer to a question about the Biden administration’s sway over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu compared to what was aired on the “60 Minutes” election special Monday night.

“It seems that Prime Minister Netanyahu is not listening,” journalist Bill Whitaker said to Harris.

On the social media clip, Harris briefly pauses before answering, “The work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.”

But the television version showed Harris quickly answering, “We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”

Speaking in Detroit on Thursday, Trump called it “the single biggest scandal in broadcast history.” Without evidence, he claimed “60 Minutes” was working with the Democratic Party and “wanted to make her look as good as possible.”

“The real answer of Kamala was very crazy or dumb — nobody knows what — but it was bad,” he said. “So they actually replaced it.”

CBS declined to give Spectrum News an on-the-record response to Trump’s accusations. NBC News reported Thursday, citing a source with CBS News, that both statements were part of Harris’ full answer, which was edited for time.

It’s common that prerecorded television news interviews are edited for time and clarity.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Thursday: “CBS should lose its license, and it should be bid out to the Highest Bidder, as should all other Broadcast Licenses, because they are just as corrupt as CBS — and maybe even WORSE!”

That prompted a response from FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, who said Trump’s “threats against free speech are serious and should not be ignored.”

“As I’ve said before, the First Amendment is a cornerstone of our democracy,” Rosenworcel said in a statement. “The FCC does not and will not revoke licenses for broadcast stations simply because a political candidate disagrees with or dislikes content or coverage.”

Trump has repeatedly threatened to revoke broadcast networks’ licenses over media coverage he did not like. More recently, he called for ABC to be removed from the air because its moderators fact-checked him on a handful of false claims he made during last month’s debate against Harris.

The FCC does not license TV or radio networks but instead licenses individual broadcast stations, many of which are network affiliates.

The Trump campaign is demanding that “60 Minutes” release the full transcript of its interview with Harris, a request echoed by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Thursday.

“The transcript will speak for itself and there is no reason not to clear the air,” he posted Thursday on X, formerly Twitter. “The idea that @KamalaHarris’ comments may have been edited in a favorable way needs to be dealt with quickly.”

The incident is the second dispute between Trump and “60 Minutes” in recent days. For more than a half-century, major party candidates have sat down for interviews for the venerable news magazine show’s election special. “60 Minutes” said Trump initially agreed to an interview this year before backing out. The Trump campaign denies it ever committed to the interview.

The Democratic National Committee has not responded to an email from Spectrum News seeking a response to Trump’s claim that it was working with “60 Minutes.”
