City Hall Chief Counsel Lisa Zornberg announced her resignation late Saturday night, effective immediately.
Her resignation letter, obtained by NY1, says, in part: “I have concluded that I can no longer effectively serve in my position. I wish you nothing but the best.”
Zornberg spent 13 months providing legal guidance to the mayor and other senior policymakers in City Hall. Before that, she was a senior federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York.
In a statement, Mayor Eric Adams thanked Zornberg for her work.
“These are hard jobs and we don’t expect anyone to stay in them forever. The other senior members of the counsel’s team will remain in their roles to ensure the office continues to fully operate without issue, and we expect to name an acting chief counsel in the coming days.”
Zornberg leaves City Hall following an investigation into several high-ranking members of the mayor’s administration.
Former Police Commissioner Edward Caban officially resigned his role Thursday. He was one of five top officials who had their phones seized or were the subject of search warrants, including First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and Schools Chancellor David Banks.
None have been charged with any wrongdoing.
