After former President Jimmy Carter left office, he dedicated his life to volunteer work and spent decades building homes with Habitat for Humanity.
Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, began their journey with Habitat for Humanity on the Lower East Side in 1984, Karen Haycox — the CEO of Habitat for Humanity New York City and Westchester County — told NY1’s Dean Meminger Sunday.
"I have it on good authority that he's gone back to visit those families several times and engaged with them," Haycox said.
The former president returned to the city several times, including in 2013 when he worked in Queens.
