The City Council’s Progressive Caucus shrunk to 20 members from 35 Friday.

At issue was a statement of principles updated by the left-leaning group that called for reducing the “size and scope of the NYPD and the Department of Correction.”

Councilmember Tiffany Cabán of Queens told Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” the reduction is “really exciting.”

“Because you’re going from a, yes, larger body but that didn’t really have focus or discipline or an agenda that united them. So now you have his group of people who are very clearly politically aligned, values aligned and have an agenda that they want to drive,” she said, adding that those priorities are affordable housing, mental health support, funding schools, and more.

Cabán said having a smaller number of members makes the caucus more effective.

She also spoke about her opinion piece, which calls for reducing the size and scope of the NYPD and the city’s Department of Correction.
