NEW YORK — It was a call for unity for New York Democrats.
Democratic mayoral nominee Eric Adams, Public Advocate Jumaane and Democratic nominee for city comptroller Brad Lander appeared side by side at a rally in front of Brooklyn Borough Hall on Friday morning.
“We’re putting on one jersey on Nov. 2, and that’s team New York,” Adams said.
What You Need To Know
- Early voting will start Saturday morning
- Before that, the leading candidates for mayor made some final arguments
- Eric Adams rallied with other Democratic candidates to urge people to head to the polls
- Curtis Sliwa, meanwhile, was pushing for hiring more school safety officers
They were trying to rally supporters on the eve of early voting. New Yorkers will start to head to the polls Saturday morning to cast ballots in contests for mayor, Public Advocate, city comptroller and City Council.
Voters around Borough Hall appeared to have made their choice:
“For me, it’s Eric Adams,” Brooklyn resident Toby Ebede said.
NY1 asked why:
“Don't even get me started on the other guy,” she added.
Adams is the favorite. His republican rival, Curtis Sliwa, is not expected to mount a serious challenge. Adams certainly dismissed him Friday morning.
“Curtis is not significant in this race,” Adams said. "He is a clown. And New York City is not his circus.”
Sliwa fired back. “You look where Eric Adams has been lately, it’s been the uber elite, the realtors, the hedge fund managers, the developers, most of whom are white,” Sliwa said. "He’s hanging out with the TikTok girls at clubs at night, trying to keep up with the Kardashians. He’s lost his street cred."
Before that, Sliwa was talking school safety in the Bronx, after multiple guns were found on school grounds this week. He wants to hire hundreds more school safety agents.
Despite his underdog status, he had won over some supporters.
"For year and years and years, been a champion of New York City. He’s been fighting for the city, for crime and justice,” Bronx resident Victor Colon told us. "And he’s a good man."
