Many New Yorkers first got to know him as a candidate for president.
Now, Andrew Yang is a candidate for mayor, and he's bringing with him many of the sweeping transformational proposals he was known for in his presidential campaign.
But speaking with NY1, Yang said his time as a businessman in the city has prepared him for the nuts and bolts of governing the five boroughs.
He also said his first priority as mayor would be to get the federal government to come forward with the support the city needs.
"There is no national recovery without a New York recovery, and NYC is one of the main economic drivers of the entire state by any measurement. So the governor and the mayor need to be working together to make the case to the feds that NYC is vital to the eventual comeback of the nation, and I can make that case more powerfully than any other candidate in this race,” Yang said.
Yang also said he'll establish a strong working relationship with Gov. Andrew Cuomo, saying he and the governor's interests are "nearly 100% aligned."
