Some of New York's top Democrats are ready to get behind a push to impeach President Donald Trump.

Congress Members Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Grace Meng told NY1 on Wednesday that they still consider impeachment an option.

"My community wants us to impeach, so my job as a representative for NY-14 is to advocate for what NY-14 residents want," Ocasio-Cortez said.

"Impeachment is still not off the table," Meng added. "Congress still has to do and finish its job."

New York's junior senator and presidential candidate, Kirsten Gillibrand, also called for impeachment proceedings to begin, saying Mueller's comments made it clear it was time for Congress to take action.

More than two years after he began an investigation into Trump, Special Counsel Robert Mueller spoke publicly on Wednesday, defending the contents of his report, saying he was precluded by Justice Department policy from charging the president with a crime.

"If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so," Mueller said Wednesday, speaking publicly for the first time in two years.

Mueller said he has no intention of testifying before Congress. "The report is my testimony. I would not provide information beyond that which is already public in any appearance before Congress," he said.

Members of Congress, including New York Rep. Nydia Velázquez, want to move forward with their investigation of the Trump White House and are still waiting to get a full copy of the report.

"In order for Congress to do its investigation, it is important for the attorney general, [William] Barr, to present to Congress an unredacted report," Velázquez said.

Nadler would not answer when asked if he still plans to subpoena Mueller to appear before Congress.

"Mr. Mueller told us a lot of what we needed to hear here today," Nadler said at a news conference.

Even if New York City's Congressional Delegation says it is time to move forward with impeachment proceedings, it still needs the support of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has said Congress should focus on its investigations.
