Taking aim at upstate and its continued population loss, The Simpsons helped rub salt in an old wound with some biting humor.
Among the lines in the show include "We are headed to the one place that can never decline. And that's because it was never that great. Upstate New York!" and "I want to sleep in, in a city that never wakes!"
Governor Andrew Cuomo was asked about the parody song at an appearance upstate, where he told reporters he had not seen it.
"No. See how easy? I missed it. No. Nope. Sorry. No disrespect to 'The Simpsons, but no,'" Cuomo said. "I'm going to write a letter to the Simpsons. Now if they respond, I'll be really worried."
Democratic Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie also said he had not seen it.
"No, I don't watch the Simpsons. I used to, but not anymore," he said.
The comment went hand in hand with a tweet earlier in the day from President Donald Trump.
Trump was referring to a state investigation into the NRA's finances initiated by the state attorney general. Cuomo then responded, saying that while Trump is afraid to stand up to the NRA, New York State is not.
