A NY1/Baruch College poll finds that Donald Trump is ahead of his Republican rivals in New York State by a whopping 43 percentage points. Trump gets 60% of the vote in a Republican primary in New York, John Kasich is in second place, with 17 percent and Ted Cruz trails in third place with 14 percent.
Trump’s support is widespread, putting him in a strong position to potentially sweep the state’s 95 Republican delegates up for grabs. Trump wins every demographic, socio-economic group and geographic area in the state, the NY1/Baruch College poll found.
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton is ahead of Bernie Sanders by 13 points. 50% of likely primary voters are supporting Clinton and 37% are backing Sanders.
In a general election, though, Clinton or Sanders would beat Trump in New York. Clinton would win 51% to 35%. Sanders would trounce Trump even more decisively, beating him 54% to 32%.
