“Once Upon a Mattress”

The hit City Center Encores! revival of “Once Upon a Mattress” has transferred to The Hudson Theatre. The classic musical comedy based on the story of “The Princess and the Pea” stars two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster, opposite Michael Urie and SNL alum Ana Gasteyer. The musical is currently in previews. The opening of the musical is set for Aug. 12.

“The Meeting: The Interpreter”

On the off-Broadway front, and also in previews, “The Meeting: The Interpreter” starring Kelley Curran from “The Gilded Age” and Tony Award winner Frank Wood. In this politically charged two- hander, Curran and Wood bring the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Paul Manafort and Donald Trump Jr. center stage, exploring a story of a man who finds himself entangled in government systems. The show officially opens on Sunday at the Theatre at St. Clement’s.

“Someone Spectacular”

Heading now to the Pershing Square Signature Center is “Someone Spectacular” by Domenica Feraud. This new play is set in a group therapy session and hits on themes of love and loss.

Broadway performer Kevin Smith Kirkwood is channeling diva Whitney Houston, once again, at Joe’s Pub with his show “Classic Whitney: The Happy Birthday Edition.” Kirkwood will perform tunes made famous by the icon on her actual birthday, Aug. 9.
