With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to make a choice. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of “must-see” shows this week, directing you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond.

Prayer for the French Republic

The 2022 Drama Desk Award winning play, “Prayer for the French Republic” is now on stage at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Written by Joshua Harmon and directed by Tony winner David Cromer, “Prayer for the French Republic” spans decades and follows a family grappling with antisemitism. The show officially opens on Jan. 9.

“Days of Wine and Roses”

Also getting ready to begin previews, “Days of Wine and Roses.” Broadway dream team, Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James reunite in this dark musical that features a score by Adam Guettel. “Days of Wine and Roses” was adapted from the powerful 1962 film that starred Jack Lemon and Lee Remick. In the musical, O’Hara and James play a couple struggling with the harsh realities of alcoholism. “Days of Wine and Roses” begins performances at Studio 54 on Saturday evening. Opening night is set for Jan. 28.

“The Night of the Iguana”

Moving to the Off-Broadway scene, Tennessee Williams’ “The Night of the Iguana” returns to the New York stage courtesy of La Femme Theater at The Pershing Square Signature Center. The show, which centers around an eclectic crew in Mexico, features an A-list cast including Tim Daly, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Lea DeLaria and Austin Pendleton. “The Night of the Iguana” is playing through the end of February.

Don’t miss original “Rent” stars and pals, Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp who will be “Celebrating Friendship & History” at 54 Below on Jan. 7 through Jan. 20, and on Monday night Tony winner Beth Leavel returns to the club with her latest act including moments from her career plus some surprises.
