A proud born and raised resident of Queens, Alyssa Paolicelli fondly recalls growing up in the same apartment her great grandparents bought when they first immigrated to New York City from Ireland. With this, it’s no surprise that Alyssa’s favorite park across the five boroughs is the Gantry Plaza State Park – which she says has the best views in the whole city.
A passionate journalist, Alyssa began her career with NY1 as a freelance news assistant in 2017. It took her only three months to be hired as a full-time staff member. She then began to produce anchor packages, the Queens and Staten Island person of the week and the week-in-review shows. From there, Alyssa’s reporting debut came the night of the Con Ed Blue Light transmission fire. For her, showing up to a story and speaking with people who are the neighbors of her friends and family is one of her favorite things about working at NY1. More so, telling the stories that matter to people across the city is an opportunity she never takes for granted. Alyssa has reported on a lot of stories, but the one that still stands out is one of her first. It’s about a community in Woodside that came together through a Facebook group to return long-lost Vietnam-era love letters exchanged by a Queens couple to their children. During her coverage, Alyssa witnessed the remarkable moment the daughters received the lost letters.
Outside of the newsroom, Alyssa, an avid runner, can usually be found training for her next race. Aside from that, Alyssa spends her off time with friends and family. A huge New York Sports fan, Alyssa usually finds a way to report on her favorite teams.
