It's been more than two months since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police, but the unrest and tension between police and community continues.
So one NYPD detective took it upon himself to find an artistic and creative way to help heal those who are suffering.
Detective Dayal Richardson is the voice behind a new single called Love Will Win. He says the song is to give people a different view of law enforcement.
"The song, it really addresses the conditions of what's happening out here in the United States and all across the world," he siad. "It's a call for us to reexamine ourselves and take a more intuitive look within and get back to what really matters."
Detective Richardson expressed his feelings following the death of Floyd, saying he was confused and bewildered just like everyone else. He says he had to remain professional, but he is a person first.
"Like the song, love and compassion these are things that I think would breed a better generation of law enforcement if we continue to infuse love and compassion. I have seen it throughout my career," Richardson said. "I work with a bunch of wonderful individuals. I've been in numerous situations and love has always seemed to be the best course of action. I've had great experiences by implementing love in every situation, so I just recommend that for everyone who does this job."
He says he want people to try to understand how difficult the job is and to look within themselves and from both perspectives.
He sends a reminder that law enforcement is not the enemy and says it is there to work together.
