After months of waiting, an election poll worker is finally paid for her services after she turned to NY1 For You for help. NY1’s Susan Jhun filed the following report.
It's not just another payday for Shirlene Cooper, who finally received a check for work she did five months ago.
"It was long overdue,” says Cooper.
A few weeks back, NY1 told you how the disabled grandma who lives on a fixed income, served as a poll worker for the Board of Elections last September. Cooper expected to get paid for a full day's work in six to eight weeks.
"Six to eight weeks went by, no pay,” Cooper says.
Cooper called the Board of Election's local Brooklyn office several times a week for months to no avail.
"Their policies and procedures states that you're supposed to receive a check within 6 to 8 weeks. They violated their own policy,” says Cooper.
NY1 called the Board of Elections and they said there was a delay in paying a very small percentage of poll workers who had prior city identification. After our call, Cooper got a check.
"I just want to thank NY1 for getting involved and helping me get my check from The Board of Elections,” says Cooper.
