The hot weather this week throughout much of the country is creating a challenge for the power grid as air conditioners are working overtime.
Rich Dewey, the president and CEO of the New York Independent System Operator, said in a Capital Tonight interview the power grid is prepared to meet the challenge of the summertime heat wave.
But going forward, energy supply in New York faces a more complex challenge: How to transition the state to more renewable and cleaner forms of energy in order to curtail the effects of climate change.
The implementation will mean major changes for what kinds of cars New Yorkers drive to how their homes will be heated. In the interview, Dewey explains how the coming changes will broadly impact how power is produced, and what this means for New Yorkers.
