AKRON — Akron Mayor Shammas Malik recently released the 2025 resurfacing list, containing the streets to be repaired throughout the Akron-area.
This year, the list contains 34 new miles of roadway and 14 miles of carryover roads, meaning 48 miles of roadway will be repaired. Through the pavement rehabilitation program, Ward 6 is also a target of these repairs.
“We’re proud to announce this year’s resurfacing program which covers 34 new miles of roadway and 14 miles of carryover work,” said Malik. “We’re already over halfway done with the carryover roads, so we will be getting started with the 2025 list very soon. Akron’s roadways are a high priority for many of our residents and while there’s plenty of work to do across the city, each year this program makes a huge difference. I’m excited for our residents to see the full impact of this investment at the end of the season.”
Malik budgeted $5.5 million for the resurfacing program and an additional $2.15 million for the concrete pavement rehabilitation program.
When creating the list, the city grades the conditions of each street, paving the "worst first" while taking in traffic conditions and aiming to cluster streets together in order to reduce mobilization costs and maximize efficiency. Other considerations include where lead line replacements, underground utility work or sewer projects may occur and could delay repavement.
Streets are graded with the pavement condition index, which is a numerical index used to indicate the condition of a pavement section.
