CLEVELAND — There was a playoff buzz in the air in Downtown Cleveland on Sunday as the Cavaliers begin their NBA playoff run against the Miami Heat.

What You Need To Know

  • The Cavaliers tipped off the NBA playoffs Sunday against the Miami Heat.

  • Prior to each home playoff game, fans can enjoy a Fan Fest on East 4th street.

  • Fans believe they can make a difference for the team during the playoffs.

The last time the Cavaliers were the number one seed in the Eastern Conference was back in 2016 when they won the NBA Finals. Fans in northeast Ohio and Cleveland are hoping this playoff run will have a similar end result for the wine and gold.

“I hear it’s like no other," Cavaliers fan Michelle Samples said. "I’m waiting for that Eastern Conference Finals. I think it’s going to be them and the Celtics. I think they got the Celtics and can go all the way.”

The game is not the only thing fans have to look forward to throughout the playoffs.

Prior to each playoff home game at Rocket Arena, there will be a Fan Fest presented by Huntington on East 4th Street. Activities for that will include DJ performances, playoff giveaways, and more.

Kailtin Hanlon of Columbus is attending her first Cavs playoff game on Sunday and says she can't wait to experience the playoff atmosphere.

"We need a win to get going," Hanlon said. "I’m excited, I’m looking forward to the high energy and the crowd going crazy. I hope it’s insanely loud.”

Cleveland will have home court advantage throughout the remainder of the Eastern Conference playoffs as the number one seed. Cavaliers all-star guard Donovan Mitchell says the fans can help the team push forward during the biggest games of the season.

“To get to play in front of the best fans in the league and use it to our advantage," Mitchell said. "I know it’s going to be a white out, I know it’s going to be exciting. I’ve seen it twice, I’m looking forward to it for a third time.”
