DAYTON, Ohio — Wright State University has received nearly $780,000 to help support students in STEM or STEM-focused programs for the 2025-26 academic year.

The funds are through the Choose Ohio First Scholarship program from the state of Ohio, which aims to increase enrollment, retention, as well as academic and career success for students in the STEM field.

For the first time, Wright State said it will be offering the scholarships to graduate students.

“We are thrilled to expand the Choose Ohio First scholarship program to include Wright State graduate students this year,” said Subhashini Ganapathy, dean of the College of Graduate Programs and Honor Studies. “This vital support allows us to attract and retain top-tier STEM talent. By investing in these future leaders, we are strengthening Ohio’s innovation pipeline and enabling students to make meaningful contributions to high-demand fields.”

The scholarships will help recipients get work-based learning opportunities, such as internships and co-ops, giving them experience before enterting the field after graduation.

The Choose Ohio First program first launched in 2008, and Wright State has participated since then. The program has helped amped up the workforce in the area and beyond in the following disciplines:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
