OHIO — President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Wednesday and endorsed Sen. Jon Husted for the 2026 election.
Husted took over JD Vance's spot as Ohio senator in January when Vance vacated the position to start his role as vice president of the U.S. Prior to becoming senator, Husted served as Ohio's lieutenant governor for seven years alongside Gov. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio.
"Jon is a wonderful man, has ALWAYS delivered for Ohio, and will continue doing so in the U.S. Senate," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
Trump went on to say, "Jon Husted has my Complete and Total Endorsement — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!"
Vance held the spot for two years. In 2026, Ohio will hold a race for that Senate seat. Husted will be able to run for the seat for the full six-year term.
"I am honored to have President Trump’s endorsement and his complete trust to always fight for Ohio and to put America First as I serve in the U.S. Senate,” said Husted in a statement. “I will work diligently with him and his team to secure our borders, champion innovation, restore prosperity to the heartland, and fight for common sense Ohio values.”
It's the second Ohio-based endorsement Trump has made recently. Last month, Trump gave his endorsement to Republican Vivek Ramaswamy for the Ohio governor's race, also set to be decided in 2026.
