RALEIGH, N.C. — While car inspections are necessary for North Carolina drivers, many find them to be a hassle. But it may become an easier task, thanks to artificial intelligence.
A new system called UVEye is being used right now in some places in North Carolina.
It takes multiple photos of the vehicle's exterior and scans the undercarriage.
Within seconds, it sends all of the photos to the driver's cell phone so they can see any potential issues.
“It’s very comprehensive, but it’s also quick to get access to, and if I were thinking about a fleet, I could access all of the records electronically and not have to actually see the vehicles in person," said Terry Clay, a customer at Sir Walter Chevrolet in Raleigh.
The Israeli-based company originally set out to detect bombs hidden underneath cars with the technology, but quickly realized it could be used for so much more than defense, like automating the car inspection process.
UVEye is currently being used by dealerships in Raleigh, Jacksonville, New Bern, Wilson, Oxford, Greensboro and Charlotte.
