Luna Park at Coney Island officially opened for the season Saturday.
The amusement park’s reopening coincided with unseasonably warm weather, with sunny skies and highs near 80.
An egg cream christening at the Cyclone roller coaster marks the start of a new season at the park each year.
“Luna Park is the largest amusement park in New York City, known as the ‘heart of Coney Island,’ with a heritage stretching back over 120 years,” Guy Zoda, master of ceremonies for the Brooklyn Cyclones and better known as King Henry, the “self-proclaimed legend of Coney Island,” said to kick off the event.
Councilmember Justin Brannan, City Comptroller Brad Lander and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso were also among those delivering remarks to celebrate the occasion.
The Cyclone turns 98 this year, and for opening day, its first 98 passengers received a free ride and complimentary egg cream.
Returning visitors may notice some new arcade games and renovated retail outlets.
For now, the park is only open on weekends, but will be open daily for the week of spring break in April.
After Memorial Day, the park will be open every day.
