OHIO — A Toledo murder suspect was shot by Columbus police after law enforcement served a warrant Wednesday morning.
Darnell Jones, 33, was shot when law enforcement encountered Jones as part of the murder investigation. It happened after 10 a.m. near the intersection of Dennison Avenue and 2nd Avenue in Columbus' Victorian Village neighborhood.
Jones is accused of killing his 13-year-old daughter, Keimani Latigue.
On March 18, Keimani was reported missing to Toledo Police. As the investigation unfolded, police issued an arrest warrant for abduction for Jones on Monday. Keimani's body was later found in an abandoned home in the 1100 block of Miami Street in Toledo.
An arrest warrant for murder was issued for Jones.
The search for Jones led investigators to Columbus. During Wednesday morning's interaction with police, a SWAT officer shot and injured Jones. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.
“I would like to extend gratitude to the officers of the Toledo and Columbus Police Departments for their hard work and dedication in getting justice for Keimani," said Toledo Police Chief Michael Troendle.
No officers were injured in the shooting according to Columbus Police.
“I spoke with Columbus Mayor Ginther earlier today, following the apprehension of the suspect. We will continue to work in collaboration with Columbus Police Department to find justice for Keimani," said Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation is leading the investigation into the officer involved shooting.
