Motorists from Oahu’s westside can expect more traffic over the weekend as the Hawaii Department of Transportation announced three right lanes headed eastbound on the H-1 Freeway between Kaimakani Street Overpass and the eastbound Nimitz Highway off-ramp (Exit 15) will be closed from 6:30 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Monday, March 17.

The lane to the Nimitz Highway off-ramp along with the right shoulder will also be closed throughout the weekend work as crews repave the roadway. HDOT advises motorists to use Moanalua Freeway and alternate routes during the closure.

This same schedule will be in place over the next several weekends as crews work on roadway construction and repaving, guardrail installation, and striping and signage installations. The estimated completion date is May 2025, weather permitting.

HDOT asks motorists to allow for extra drive time, drive with caution and follow traffic control signs.
