HOUSTON — Neither the Texans nor the Cowboys made it to the big game in 2025, but Texas was still in the building at the Ceasars Superdome.
One Houston native can add NFL champion and Super Bowl LIX MVP to his resume. Jalen Hurts led the Philadelphia Eagles to a 40-22 victory on Sunday against the two-time championship winners, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Hurts, who was born and raised in Houston, was up against many doubts that the quarterback could pull off the impossible against KC Patrick Mahomes. The Eagles quarterback was named MVP after passing 17-for-22 for 221 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and also ran 11 times for 72 yards and a touchdown.
While Mahomes and company struggled to move the ball down the field due to the Eagles’ explosive defense, the Chiefs quarterback also gained a career high after being sacked six times.
But now all eyes are on the comeback kid who lost to this very Kansas City Chiefs team in 2023. Hurts became the first-ever NFL Player to win the MVP title from the Houston area.
The 26-year-old quarterback played for Channelview High School before leading the Crimson Tide to a National Championship game appearance.
After three seasons at Alabama, Hurts took his talents to the Oklahoma Sooners where he shined. He had a record-breaking season that ended with him finishing in second place in voting for the Heisman Trophy.
Fast forward to 2025, the Houston pride soars high for Hurts. Much like the 2023 Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs matchup platformed two quarterbacks at the top of their game from Texas.
