All Skyline stations currently in operation will be closed on Jan. 11, 12, 18 and 19. The planned work is part of the process of unifying the operational segment of the system with the new testing segment, according to the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services.

Skyline will reopen with regular weekday operations on Jan. 13 at 5:00 a.m. and Jan. 20 at 8:00 a.m. The service will follow the city holiday schedule on Jan. 20 due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

“We know our riders depend on the availability and reliability of our Skyline service, however, this is an important milestone for Skyline,” said DTS deputy director Jan Nouchi. “This shutdown will allow us to connect our currently operating tracks and stations to our newest segment of five miles and four stations to Kalihi, including Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and the airport. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we deliver more and better Skyline operations in 2025.”

The second segment consists of 5.2 miles of rail guideway extending from the Aloha Stadium Station to the Middle Street Transit Center. It is expected to open by the end of the year.

The new segment will add new stations at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Lagoon Drive and the Middle Street Transit Center.

For weekend Skyline riders affected by the planned closures, alternative TheBus service is available between the following stations:

  • Kualakai East Kapolei and Keoneae UH West Oahu Skyline Station: Routes C, 46, 416, 461

  • Keoneae UH West Oahu and Hoaeae West Loch Station: Route 40

  • Hoaeae West Loch and Pouhala Waipahu Transit Center Station: Routes 40, 42, E, W1

Waiawa Pearl Highlands Skyline Station will have normal weekend TheBus service including Routes 531, 532, 533, and 535, so riders can access Pearl Highlands Center and the surrounding neighborhood.

There is no connecting bus service at Honouliuli Hoopili and Halaulani Leeward Community College Skyline Stations.

Station operators will be at each station to help riders with connections to TheBus routes and directions.
