Micky Dolenz has a message to his fans: He will be playing the hits during his two shows at City Winery. He says it’s no fun when artists decide against playing their big hits for live performances.

“I made a contract with the audience years ago that when I do a show, I’m going to fulfill that contract of doing those hits,” Dolenz said.

What You Need To Know

  • Micky Dolenz is performing two shows at The Loft at City Winery on Dec. 10

  • Dolenz is the last surviving member of The Monkees

  • He will perform Monkees hits and songs from other artists, as well as stories from his career in show business

He’ll be performing at The Loft at City Winery in Chelsea on Dec. 10.

Dolenz does say playing the hits gives him some freedom to also play some deeper cuts from The Monkees, the band that was born from a late-1960s TV show and turned into a phenomenon.

The evening is called "Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees, Songs and Stories." Dolenz says he will also feature songs from other artists.

“I now tell stories about Stephen Stills, Elton John. I have one I’m working on about my friend Harry Nilsson. I tell a great story about the Beatles going to London and meeting the Beatles and going to one of the Sgt. Pepper sessions at Abbey Road studios,” Dolenz said.

Not to mention the 1967 Monkees tour, where guitar legend Jimi Hendrix was the band’s opening act. It didn’t go so well, and Hendrix left the tour after a show at Forest Hills Stadium.

“It happens, and it has happened to a lot of other artists, and you know the fans were there to see the Monkees and Jimi was not well known yet, but he was an incredible guy, and, of course, one of the most incredible guitar talents of all-time,” Dolenz said.

Dolenz is the last living member of The Monkees. Cast and bandmates Davy Jones, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith have all passed. When NY1 asked about his longtime collaborators, he had a simple answer.

“Do you have any siblings? Need I say more,” said Dolenz, who carries on the legacy of his bandmates and his career that dates back to 1956 when he appeared on TV as circus boy.
