TEXAS — Country singer Sundance Head, a winner on “The Voice,” is recovering at home after he was accidentally shot in the stomach while handling a firearm on a hunting trip at his East Texas ranch, his agent said Sunday.
The singer was shot with his own gun.
According to a post on Sundance Head’s verified Facebook page by his wife Misty, the singer was released from a Tyler, Texas, hospital late Friday night. The entertainer is expected to make a full recovery.
Head, winner of the 11th season of NBC's “The Voice” in 2016, was leaning into his vehicle to grab his .22 caliber pistol when it fell out of its holster and onto the exterior of the vehicle and fired off a shot that hit Head in the stomach, his agent, Trey Newman said in an email.
The singer, 46, whose real name is Jason Head, was a finalist in the sixth season of “American Idol” but was eliminated prior to the finals.
In 2016, he was on Team Blake Shelton on “The Voice” when he won the 11th season. His winning song was “Darlin’ Don’t Go.”
According to his bio, the singer’s father, Roy Head, was in the band The Traits, which was best known for their 1965 hit, “Treat Her Right.”
His bio says that he recorded with the Texas rock and blues band ZZ Top when he was 20, but didn’t begin playing music professionally until 13 years later.
His band, Sundance Head, plays all over Texas, the performer’s bio says.
