Nominations for the 25th annual Latin Grammys are in, and Texans are nominated in several categories. Here are the artists that will represent the Lone Star State on the biggest night in Latin music.

Grupo Frontera

The regional Mexican group from Edinburg has reached new heights of success in the past two years, playing sold-out shows all over the world and collaborating with some of the industry’s top talents such as Shakira and Peso Pluma.

Among the group’s nominations are:

  • Best Norteño Album for their debut album “El Comienzo”
  • Best Contemporary Mexican Music Album, a new category for 2024, for “Jugando A Que No Pasa Nada,” the group’s sophomore album
  • Best Regional Song for “El Amor De Su Vida” a collaboration with fellow regional Mexican group Grupo Firme

Intocable

Another regional Mexican group up for an award is Intocable, also hailing from South Texas. The group is based in Zapata and specializes in norteño and tejano music. They are nominated alongside Grupo Frontera for Best Norteño Album for their latest record “Modus Operandi,” which was released in February.

Édgar Barrera

For those that aren’t familiar, Jack Antonoff is to pop music what Édgar Barrera is to Latin music. Barrera, who also hails from the Rio Grande Valley, has helped write and produce songs for some of the biggest artists in the genre, among them Grupo Frontera, Becky G, Carin León, Shakira, Nicki Nicole and many more.

This year, his long list of nominations are for Songwriter of the Year and Producer of the Year. Here are the songs he’s nominated for in each category.

The University of North Texas

UNT is home to a world-renowned music program, and the school has earned its first Latin Grammy nomination for “Caribbean Berceuse,” a piece by Paquito D’Rivera. The North Texas Wind Symphony performed the track and recorded it at UNT’s Winspear Performance Hall. Regents professor of music at UNT Eugene Migliaro Corporon composed the piece, which is nominated for Best Classical Contemporary Composition.

Voting members of the Latin Recording Academy will determine the winners on Oct. 10, and the Latin Grammys will take place on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. CT at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
