Visitors to Mercer Labs on Dey Street in Lower Manhattan are stepping into an immersive world of art and technology with the debut of its new museum.
The Dragon Room, one of 15 distinct spaces in the Mercer Labs Museum of Art and Technology, utilizes mirrors and lighting to create an expansive, infinite experience.
What You Need To Know
- Mercer Labs is an art and technology museum in Lower Manhattan
- It was co-founded by experimental artist Roy Nachum
- The inaugural exhibition is from Nachum, called "Limitless"
"Around 500,000 LEDs that we can control every little pixel and create pretty much anything we want," said Roy Nachum, artist and co-founder of the museum.
Nachum, who also serves as the creative director, has filled the museum with his artwork for the exhibition titled "Limitless."
"We try to do things that are completely new and different, and we can always transform and change, and let different artists and different creators come and play in our playground," Nachum said.
The museum features an array of interactive exhibits, including a psychedelic ball pit, a working giant robot and a 4D sound studio.
It's a wild ride as visitors swing through the exhibits, never quite knowing what or who is coming next.
The museum also includes Braille for the visually impaired, as Nachum is hoping to make the exhibition accessible to all. He also hopes traveling through the rooms brings out the inner child within all of us.
"The goal is to really enjoy the moment and really have, like, intense, great feeling, a sense of hope, a sense of inspiration, and you know, touch all of your senses," Nachum said.
