What You Need To Know

  • Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign says it raised $310 million in July, which it called the biggest haul in the 2024 election cycle and the best grassroots fundraising month in U.S. history

  • Two-thirds of the haul came from first-time donors, the campaign said, building on the $200 million that Harris raised in the week since President Joe Biden stepped down from the top of the ticket

  • The announcement comes one day after former President Donald Trump's campaign raised $138.7 million last month said it raised last month, far below what Harris raised in her first week

  • Harris' July haul is more than double what Trump's campaign says raised, and the vice president's campaign has $50 million more in cash on hand

"This is a history-making haul for a candidate who will make history this November," Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement. "The tremendous outpouring of support we’ve seen in just a short time makes clear the Harris coalition is mobilized, growing, and ready to put in the work to defeat Trump this November."

Two-thirds of the haul came from first-time donors, the campaign said, building on the $200 million that Harris raised in the week since President Joe Biden stepped down from the top of the ticket and endorsed his vice president to replace him. More than 3 million donors made 4.2 million contributions in July, the campaign said, more than 2 million of whom made their first donations of the 2024 election.

Harris' campaign said 94% of donations were under $200. Ten times more Gen Z donors and eight times as many millennial donors kicked in to the campaign in July, compared to the month prior. The campaign also touted more than $20 million from affinity groups like Black Women for Harris and White Dudes for Harris that held hastily-organized Zoom fundraising calls in the wake of the vice president launching her campaign.

With the announcement, Harris' campaign said it has raised more than $1 billion during the 2024 election cycle, the fastest a campaign has reached that threshold in U.S. history, and is boasting a $377 million war chest, which the campaign described as the biggest-ever war chest at this point in an election.

The announcement comes one day after former President Donald Trump's campaign announced raising $138.7 million for July, which Harris outraised in her record-breaking first week. Overall, Harris's July haul more than doubles Trump's total for the month.

Trump's campaign says it has $327 million in cash on hand, about $50 million less than what Harris' campaign says it has in its reserves.

July is the final fundraising month before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, which kicks off the sprint to November's election. Harris is also expected to select her running mate within the next week, which could boost her fundraising totals further.

"Our money is going to the work that wins close elections – whether it be the organizer knocking doors in DeKalb County, a rural office opening in Pennsylvania, or a college student tabling at a club fair," Chavez Rodriguez said. "It is the product of a campaign and coalition that knows the hard work and fighting spirit needed to win in November – and when we fight, we win."

"From historic grassroots fundraising to hundreds of thousands of new volunteers, one thing is clear as Vice President Harris continues to prosecute the case against convicted felon Donald Trump – voters are fired up and ready to beat Trump again this November," said Democratic National Committee chair Jaime Harrison, adding: "We can't and won't go back, and this past month made it clear that the American people agree."
